Blind Tiger Organic Navy Strength Gin

During the early years of the Royal British Navy there existed no method for assessing the alcohol content of spirits or any other alcoholic drink. This posed a particular challenge, as they needed to ensure that any volume of alcohol transported aboard a ship would ignite if the cask were damaged during combat. While it may seem peculiar, in times when cannonballs and muskets were in use, damp gunpowder could prove fatal in battle. Therefore, it was imperative that any spilled spirit retained sufficient flammability to allow the use of the powder. To determine this, a test was conducted by blending a small amount of the spirit with gunpowder to create a paste, which was then ignited. If the mixture burned, it was deemed to be 100 degrees proof.

Blind Tiger Navy Strength Organic Gin is distilled in the same small batch manner as all gins in the Blind Tiger Organic Gin range but is bottled at the much higher strength of 59.9% ABV, the highest of any Navy Strength Gin in Australia, and as such displays concentrated, pungent juniper and lime citrus aroma on first pour. These open to intense citrus and spice character of the other botanicals with time. When neat, it is peppery hot on the palate and has a drying finish at this higher alcohol content, just a drop of water in a glass sees the spirit open up and reveal its exotic characters.

Makes a very richly flavoured G&T when mixed with premium tonic.
