Wine Enthusiast Magazine - Feb 2011 Issue - 90 Points
“Angove’s deserves credit for its effort to step up the quality of its wines in the Vineyard Select series. The 2007 Shiraz is a medium-bodied, reasonably structured example of McLaren Vale fruit, balancing bright raspberry and cherry fruit against savoury notes of cedar and black oak.”
Fine Wine Club - Barry Weinman - Feb 2012 - 17.8 Points
“I like this wine. Bright, peppery fruit to the max. This is elegant and refined, but there is a real thrust to the palate. The oak is very well handled and the tannins fine. The peppery fruit carries the palate and ibues superb length. Chewy, almost licorice fruit, with spicy fruitcake notes to close. Value!”
Geelong Advertiser - Cam Best -15.12.11 - 7.5/10
“There are certain labels on the market where you can be almost assured of the quality before you even take it off the shelf. Angove is one such label. Deep crimson in colour, its inviting aroma of cherry gives way to a lovely coffee and chocolate affair finished with velvety tannins. Angove is proud of this vintage, calling it the pick of the past decade. And for a quality winemaker like Angove, that’s saying something.”
Mount Barker Courier—02.11.11
“...has ripe berry fruits and licorice on the nose and palate and silky tannins.”
Matthew Jukes - September 2011
“Dive into the arms of this luxurious, welcoming Shiraz and wallow in the coffee bean and liquorice notes which punctuate the smooth blackberry chassis. In spite of its youth this bold 2009 is drinking beautifully already, but make sure that you are armed with something suitably carnivorous in order to take advantage of its full array of charms.”

“Good-value table wines are Angove’s forte. This McLaren Vale shiraz is typically generous, offering ripe, sweetly spicy berry fruit seasoned with a well-measured dose of coconut-tinged oak. It tastes smooth and velvety with soft tannins to keep together nicely.”
Brandon Sun Weekend, Canada - Diane Nelson - July 2011
“I had a sip, rolled my eyes in pure pleasure, turned to my husband, and said, “I think I’ve found my new Shiraz!” And it remained my favourite Shiraz after a total of 12 hours of tasting too many wines to count. With black fruit and plum flavours, a hint of anise, followed by some spice and oak, deep, dark and delicious pretty much sums up this wine. It’s robust and full, and is absolutely delightful.”
Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine - July 2011
“Indeed it’s dark fruited, and slightly old-fashioned in its flavours - there’s a lot of coffee, malty, chocolatey oak flavor - which is both its charm, and a reason why it won’t suit all tastes. But I’ve always felt that polarizing aspects are rarely a bad thing in wine. There’s a lovely slide of velvety tannins too, which makes me think that it will mellow and mature nicely over the next three or four years, if you so desire.”

“Ripe and generous on a medium-weight frame, offering blackberry and dried cherry flavours against polished tannins. Finishes with vivid flavours and a hint of coffee.”
West Australian - 26.05.11 - 90/100
“Here is a full in-your-face ripe shiraz from McLaren Vale. Masses of licorice and plum with a decent whack of vanillin oak. The palate is lavish and warm with ripe intensely concentrated fruit supported by supple tannins and soft excellent oak. It’s balanced and delivers all you want.”
Newcastle Herald - John Lewis - 02.04.11 - 4 Stars
“Here’s a remarkable value from the Renmark-based Angove family wine company. The wine is deep purple and has ripe blueberry and gumleaf scents. Plush plum flavor rolls onto the front of the palate and licorice and peppermint fruit characters marry with charry oak on the middle palate. Chalky tannins come through at the finish.”
Quaff 2011 - Peter Forrestal - Great Wines over $15
'Ditto, this single vineyard shiraz from McLaren Vale. It has ripe, sweet blackberry and bramble flavours, velvety texture, well-integrated oak, and a clean, balanced finish, which makes it approachable now.'

'Dark crimson-purple; has a potent bouquet of black fruits and licorice, then a rich full-bodied palate adding a dash of dark chocolate to the blackberry base. A lot of wine for the price.'

"Really fresh and vibrant. Points for drinkability. Ripe fruit with both Satsuma plum and blackberries. Really silky and long, with fine tannins and seamless oak to close. Very good wine."

Western Suburbs Weekly - John Jens - 06.07.10 - 18 Points
"The panel loved this, especially for a wine in this price range. This is a blueberry flavoured, round, dry, balanced and mouth-filling wine that shows fruit quality way beyond its price range."

'There's too much showy, glossy, vanillin oak here, but as a flashy, old fashioned style, it's pretty well done. It tastes of malty vanilla first and foremost though there is fresh, plummy fruit buried beneath. Give it another year in the bottle and it should start drinking very well. It's certainly smooth, plush and flavoursome.'

'A warm, dense and rocking-good example of McLaren Vale shiraz. Deep, sumptuous, fully ripe shiraz dominates the palate. Ripe tannins and a chewy, juicy palate feel. Plenty of sweet, ripe fruit balanced with some nice grainy oak.'
The Australian Wine Annual 2010 - Jeremy Oliver - 89 Points
'Honest and regional, with deep aromas of dark plums, prunes and currants, cedar/chocolate/cigarboxy oak and smoky leathery undertones. Supported by firmish, pilant tannins, its smooth, juicy palate marries rich, sour-edged dark plum and berry fruit with sweet chocolate, mocha and vanilla oak, finishing with length and presence.'

'The Angove label is almost a guarantee of great value these days. This Vineyard Select shiraz is a good buy if you like generous McLaren Vale shiraz and don't want to pay more than $20 for the privilege. Syrupy dark berry, club chocolate and vanillin aromas meet the nose, while the palate offers lush fruit and sweet oak flavours that are well balanced and smooth.'
