REGION:
Clare Valley, 2010
VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING:
The Clare Valley is Australia's most renowned area for Riesling, producing wines of distinctive style and structure.
Sourced from our two long term growers in the Watervale region of the Clare Valley. The 2010 Vintage was absolutely perfect, and Watervale which is the coolest part of Clare even more so, the exception being a short heatwave in February. This cooler year has been great for aromatic varietal expression, and a general lack of disease pressure has allowed us to harvest the fruit at optimal ripeness. Riesling also benefited from the cold growing season and has finished with a juicy natural acidity contributing to excellent palate weight and flavour persistence overall.
WINEMAKERS' NOTES:
Bursting with lime and lemon the aroma of this wine heralds a great drink. Bright and crystal clear with pale green hues, the wine is crisp and fresh on the palate with great length and moreish sweet fruit. Lovely now but with the potential to age for many years.
Enjoy with grilled octopus, antipasto or tapas.

James Halliday Aust. Wine Companion 2012 Edition - 90 Points - 4.5 Stars
“Light straw-green; has a perfumed bouquet with a whiff of talc alongside the citrus fruit, then a palate opening with ripe citrus/pineapple flavours, moving to a crisp, firm and dry finish.”
Wine 100 Magazine - Nov/Dec 2010 - 89 Points
The Angove team has been working hard at this wine, making inroads into gently enriched, off-dry territory. This shows light herbal notes, honeysuckle and ripe citrus. The palate's just in the off-dry style with lime and apple throughout."

"This has intense lemon juice flavours that are clean, fresh and floral before a crisp, dry finish that lingers."

"More alive than some here. Opens with citrus zest, grapefruit and lime juice. The palate is flodded with lovely limey fruit. The texture in the middle palate is good and the finish is balanced. Acid builds to add focus. A very good wine."
Winestate Magazine - Vol 33 Issue 4 - July/August 2010 - 4 Stars
"Nose tending towards the tropical fruit end of the aroma spectrum. Medium-bodied, slightly sweet, citrusy palate."
Wine 100 - July 2010 - 91 Points
"Sourced from the Watervale region, this looks terrific thanks to the tangy, structured '09 vintage. Plenty of lime and fragrance; the palate runs on crisp acidity, delivering a handy sense of flavour and approachable balance."
Winestate Special Edition 2009 - Vol 32 Issue 7 - 3 Stars
"Exotic tropical aromas - a touch spicy - a flavoursome palate with residual sweetness."
Sunday Examiner - 30.05.10
"You can't beat this wine for value. Made from grapes grown in the Watervale region of the Clare Valley - arguably Australia's finest region for dry Rieslings - this is a beautifully aromatic wine with impressive natural acidity. You'll find the lemon and lime characters associated with the region, slatey, minerally notes and a crisp, clean finish."
Geelong Advertiser - Phillip Stubbs - 13.03.10 - 8.5/10
"A stunning clarity of a light green-tinged appearance with lifted aromas of light floral and lemon citrus promises of great things in the glass. This bottle under the Vineyard Select lives up to all its promises. Tight lime acid characters take a back seat to a medium weight body where floral and green apple juiciness satisfies the palate. As expected the finish is long with hints of minerality."
Wine Spectator - Harvey Steiman - June 2010 - 90 Points
"Light and zingy, with lime and green apple flavours glowing brightly on the sleek frame
VOIR - Nick Hamilton - Montreal, Canada - 28.01.10
"With its citrus aroma and petroleum fragrance, this Australian Riesling astonishes. Very fresh, even sharpish, it will please the lover of fine, straight and typical wines. In a very dry style where acidity insures freshness and elegance, here is a white wine with character and vivacity. A delight with oysters on the shell."

The Best Wines in Australia Under $15 - Good
"I guess if you were sourcing fruit from the Clare Valley's Kevin Mitchell and Jeff Grosset you'd hope to make decent Riesling. Tony Ingle has managed that again. This wine is gently aromatic, has fresh, clean limey flavours with some toasty notes and a bright, zesty finish."
The Age - Epicure - 08.09.09 - 4 Stars
"Good Clare Valley Riesling has crept up in price, but this example still gives very pure regional/varietal personality for less than $15. It has steely aromas with zesty citrus accents and it tastes pleasantly savoury, with lime and minerally threads tracking through a dry, mouth-puckering palate of appetizing austerity."
James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2010 - Rating 89 Points
"Bright straw-green; an aromatic lime-accented bouquet promises a little more than the palate delivers, which is full of flavour."

"Quite ripe with fresh lime and hints of floral and some riper, more exotic fruits; fresh acidity on the finish."
Winestate Clare Valley & Surrounding Regions Tasting - July/August 2008
"Complex nose with slight kerosene-like note. Tight varietal palate; intense and complex with crunchy acidity."
The Key Review - Tony Keys - 25.06.08 - 89 Points
"The green/gold colour could be described as a lime green tinge. Lime again on the nose and lime follows through to the palate. There is a mass of full-on flavour that rather shocks the palate. An enjoyable wine to drink and a good price."
Hotel SA Magazine - Feb/Mar 2008
"Crisp lime-luscious Clare Valley beauty, excellent fruit characteristics with beautiful acid balance."
Who Weekly - Robyn Powell - 17.12.07
"Clare Valley Riesling continues to be one of the best buys in the Australian wine world. This one blends grapes from two vineyards near Watervale to make a wine that shows plenty of character. You notice it change in the glass as it warms up, from frosty crisp lime flavours to warmer summery florals."
West Australian - 22.11.07
"This company has been one of the great improvers in Australia and this wine is an example of why. Precise riesling with lime and lemon zest aromas and a crisp citrus palate. Soft acid sustains a long satisfying finish."
